Ceramic artist Angela Jameson lives at Waipatiki Beach, north of Napier. Everyday the beauty of the natural world is on her doorstep; the expansive sky and the hills inspire her work.
A painter for many years, Jameson was drawn to the qualities of clay and the possibilities of three dimensional forms. She moved to Italy to train at the La Mesidiana International School of Ceramics in Florence.
I think of my ceramic vessels as a canvas with multiple layers of glazes, slip and oxides in aqua, turquoise, emerald, cobalt and soft neutrals representing the gorgeous Hawkes Bay light and land. The exterior would be a representation of the variety of Hawkes Bay terrain with its orchards, vineyards and farmlands, while the interior would be in the dazzling turquoise of the sea and sky.
